HOUSE OF ABRAHAM HABITAT PROJECT UPDATE
This unique Habitat for Humanity build is a multi-denominational project, supported by TBE, St. Clare's, and various other Christian, Jewish, and Muslim organizations in our county. We expect the build to begin in September and conclude in late fall. There is still room for more volunteers to participate in the House of Abraham Habitat Build. Also donations of cash or in-kind gifts (professional services or materials) are still needed.
For more information, contact Bob Milstein, TBE Volunteer Coordinator, at milsteinfamiliy@comcast.net or Stu Simon, TBE Communication Coordinator at simonstu@aol.com
February Update:
"With a crew of about 10 we were able to paint the primer coat in the morning and paint the final coat in the afternoon. We also added all of the luan flooring in the bathroom and most of the luan in the kitchen and dining room. During this week the cabinets and counter tops can now be installed in the kitchen and bathroom.
Also, during this week John and Arron will install interior doors, trim and shelving. Cabinets, doors and some trim will also be installed this week.
On the 22nd we will prep the sidewalk and driveway, pour and frame for concrete porches (if frost laws are lifted) and "finish" grade through the week. This Saturday, Feb 23 we can finish laying the luan flooring, install the vinyl floor, and install interior doors, trim and shelving. I will need 12 volunteers. On the 29th we will move the shed, install remaining siding, install porch posts, railing and stairs and paint.
So, you see that the house is rapidly being completed. If you haven't yet lent a hand or if you would like to help with any of the above work, please sign up at http://h4h.volunteerhub.com
From the groundbreaking on September 23:
We started off by talking with the group a bit about the the missions and goals of the House of Abraham project, had the joyous opportunity to hear Dr. William (St. James), Rev. Gronek (St. Clare's), Rabbi Levy (Temple Beth Emeth), and imam Jaami (local Muslim religious leader) give their blessing and words of encouragement as the group embarks on this interfaith build project. We closed with Taju leading a ceremonial "groundbreaking" of the soil where his soon-to-be new home will be.
